Canadian Indie Geography – Pt. 3: Ontario
After a sufficiently elongated break, Canadian Indie Geography is back with part trois. We know Ontario and Quebec are a combined sector, but we just had the hardest time trying to narrow down the pool of talented artists that reside in these two provinces, which is why we’ve separated them and given them their own individual posts. Canadian Indie Geography – Pt. 1: West Coast
Canada’s always had a knack at fostering talented artists in the music world. Leaving at our dispositions an array of musicians, such as Neil Young, Sloan, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Stars, Sam Roberts Band, Simple Plan…Okay, went a little too far with that last one, but it basically goes to show that the Great White North is home to an endless amount of musical talent. RIP Stillepost (2005 – 2010)
The online forum that many Canadian music lovers have called home for the past 5 years (and even longer before the community was moved from 20hz.ca) has finally shut it’s doors. There have been threats of the boards closing for awhile now due to dwindling donations and a growing unrest among the site’s admins. While there is a fine line between truth, fiction and rumor concerning everything that went down leading up to the site’s last days, the ultimate truth is the fact that the site is down, seemingly for good, and Culture Coma is here. M For Montreal: Day 3 (Night)
So here we are. Day 3; our final coverage of this year’s M for Montreal Festival. What a 3 days it has been. We’re all exhausted here at MYATS. Greg will most likely need a wheelchair for the next few weeks from all the standing. Alright maybe we’re being a tad dramatic but on to the show.
Interview: Jonathan Emile
Who’s heard of the 23 year old, Jamaican Canadian hip hop artist extraordinaire Jonathan Emile? Well if you haven’t yet, I guarantee you will soon enough. This is one of those truly unique artists that bring something different to the table or in Emile’s case I should say things. If you buy his latest EP, The Lover/Fighter Document, which I highly recommend you do, you’ll notice that Emile mixes all kinds of genres into his music. Every song is truly different and captures you in it’s own way.
