Last Sunday’s show at the Il Motore had quite the dynamic effect, despite the lack of attendees. It was one of those days, where the city’s streets were peculiarly empty; with the exception of the occasional senior that greeted me while on my way to the venue. That may explain why the venue was lacking it’s usual fullness. Either way, it didn’t matter, because it made for a sweet little intimate show, which hardly ever happens when lo-fi, garage-punk-rock genres are involved, be it indie-infused or not.  Read more…

Interview: Ladytron

For the greater part of the past decade, Ladytron has been a well-respected and well-loved facet of the electro pop scene. Comprised of Reuben Wu, Mira Aroyo, Helen Marnie and Daniel Hunt, this Liverpool-based collective helped establish the electro pop genre with acclaimed albums including 2005′s Witching Hour and, more recently, 2008′s Volocifero. Now, as they prepare to release a new album, Reuben Wu and Mira Aroyo have hit the road to bring some high-voltage DJ sets to electronica lovers across North America – and Montreal is coming up fast on their to-do list (this Saturday, November 13th at The Rialto). We spoke with Mira Aroyo this week about their new album in the works, their favorite acts on the scene today, and on how doing DJ sets stacks up against the band’s live performance.

We have some bad news. According to Mike Small, bassist for The Meligrove Band, they been forced to cancel the rest of their tour dates in the month of November due to two of the band’s members being diagnosed with Swine Flu.
