Puces Pop Is Back For The Holidays

We’ve got a lot to be excited for this holiday season. Not only will we be putting on our very own charity holiday bash at Le Cagibi on Sunday, December 19th to benefit Eleven Eleven Animal Rescue but our friends over at Pop Montreal are putting together another one of their fabulous Puces Pop fairs the same day. The Balconies Play Divan Orange Tomorrow Night

The Balconies Play Divan Orange Tomorrow Night

It would be a great idea to start planning your Saturday night if you haven’t already done so, since there are many great shows happening in the city tomorrow night. There will be a whole bunch of amazing local bands that will be playing the final night of M for Montreal 2010 along with Luke Doucet & The White Falcon who will be playing at Il Motore. But there is also another band that will be in town and while you might not have heard of them yet, rest assured that this will not be the last time you hear about The Balconies. Read more…

Pop Montreal Nights: Part 5

Pop Montreal Nights: Part 5

Last night was the fifth and final night of Pop Montreal 2010. They may have saved the best for last though with a star studded Sunday lineup. We had a chance to check out an uplifting performance by the legendary children’s entertainer Fred Penner at The Rialto before heading over to see Scout Niblett at Sala Rossa and one of our festival highlights, The Depreciation Guild at Casa Del Popolo, as well as some late night insanity provided by Big Freedia. This will probably be the only time in history that Fred Penner and Big Freedia will be in the same article so check out the awkward contrast in photos after the jump. Read more…

Pop Montreal Nights: Part 4

Pop Montreal Nights: Part 4

Since our day 3 at Pop Montreal was pretty much completely occupied by an epic performance by The Dears, we made sure to be absolutely everywhere on day 4. On our show-hoping frenzy we managed to check out guitar genius Marnie Stern at the Cabaret, Danielson and Shapes & Sizes at La Sala Rossa and Library Voices, Ruby Coast, The Hoof & The Heel and Savoir Adore at Petit Campus. We also managed to catch Gentleman Reg‘s new dance-pop act, Light Fires over at Divan Orange and all the madness going on over at Espace Reunion with Deerhoof. Check out all of our photos from night 4 at Pop Montreal after the jump.

Pop Montreal Nights: Part 3

Pop Montreal Nights: Part 3

Friday night at Pop Montreal was a night of very tough decisions. It just so happened that The xx, Timber Timbre, Deerhoof and The Dears were all playing more or less simultaneously. So after some deliberation we went with hometown heroes, The Dears. This was after all the bands third and final show at this year’s festival and after missing them the first two nights, Friday night turned out to be all about The Dears.

Pop Montreal Nights: Part 2

Pop Montreal Nights: Part 2

Night two of Pop Montreal kicked off last night with a rainstorm that looked more like a monsoon. If you thought that would dampen the spirits of Montreal concert-goers last night you would be very wrong. The venues were all swarming with people last night despite the precarious weather outside. It’s going to take more than a little rain to keep us Montrealers from seeing the likes of Bear in Heaven, Holy Fuck, Clare & The Reasons, DVAS, Grimes, Pop Winds and the legendary Van Dyke Parks live in concert. We’ve got a whole bunch of pictures from an extremely busy day two at Pop Montreal 2010 after the jump.

Pop Montreal Nights: Part 1

Pop Montreal Nights: Part 1

Last night in Montreal was the first of five nights of Pop Montreal 2010. We chose to divide our time between three shows last night. Dublin, Ireland’s Villagers at Casa Del Popolo, Menomena! at La Sala Rossa and Montreal’s own The Breezes at Quai des Brumes. Judging by the amount of people that packed each venue to the gills I think it’s safe to say the first day of the festival was a huge success.
