So what if it’s freezing outside? Put on some layers, lace your boots and get out there because we’ve got another great week of shows lined up. Highlights this week include Fitz & The Tantrums on Tuesday at Petit Campus, Robyn and Diamond Rings at Metropolis on Thursday and Joshua Radin at La Tulipe on Sunday. But as always we have some good local acts lined up as well. Ismism, The Youjsh, Grimes and Mike Evin will all be playing shows in the city this week. Here’s our full list of highlights for this week in Montreal.
A mob of ever faithful fans assembled this past Friday for the highly anticipated return of Montreal-based electro funk duo Chromeo who have been on tour promoting the release of their hit record, Business Casual. Six months since their last appearance in the city where it all began, a sold out Metropolis could only serve as further proof that their 80s retro electro-gangsta-soul-funk formula was exactly what the music scene had been lacking for all these years.
The new year is rapidly approaching and that means one thing…Top Lists! For the past few weeks we have been carefully studying and viciously debating over what albums, songs and shows deserve top honors this year. We would like to start off with best songs of the year. Since last week’s Saturday Video Parade was devoted strictly to the spookiest of the spooky Halloween videos in the spirit of the season, this week we would like to catch you up on what you missed as well as introduce you to some of the most recently released videos from all over the indie music world. We’ve got The Streets, we’ve got The Drums, we’ve got Born Ruffians and we’ve even got some new Winter Gloves if yours are worn out. Let the parade begin!
Today is a very special day in Montreal. Not only is it Saturday and the start of the weekend but today also marks the first day of the annual 2 Day Osheaga Festival that will take place at Parc Jean-Drapeau today and tomorrow. So while we’re hoping that most of you reading this are planning on heading down to Parc Jean-Drapeau as we are in just a few minutes, we know that there are some people not heading to this year’s festival. While a couple of music videos are obviously no substitution for a whole day of fun and live music under the sun and stars, sadly it’s all we’ve got to offer. So without further ado, here is our latest Saturday Video Parade with brand new videos by Tegan and Sara, Caribou, Robyn, Chromeo, Chemical Brothers, Holy Ghost and more!
We’ve gone on and on about how good this year’s Osheaga Festival is promising to be. The initial lineup boasted some incredible acts like Arcade Fire, Stars, Pavement and The National. Over the ensuing months the Osheaga team went above and beyond in booking new acts to make the lineup even better. We are now only 11 sleeps away from day 1 of this year’s Osheaga Festival and all that’s left to decide is who to see at what time. That’s where we come in. The following is a comprehensive guide to this year’s Osheaga Festival which will hopefully make some very difficult decisions a little bit easier.
Put on your parade hats people. It’s time once again for our Saturday Video Parade! This week we’ve got some great new videos from the likes of Robyn, Goldfrapp, The Black Keys and Thieves Like Us, to name a few. To start us off we’ve got an incredibly beautiful new video from sister duo CocoRosie (playing L’Olympia June 14th) for their song “Lemonade” from their forthcoming LP, Grey Oceans. And to finish us off we’ve got a pretty odd little vid from Arms‘ song “Eyeball” from their debut LP, Kids Aflame. Read more…
