MYATS Presents…Holly Jolly Holiday Bash – 12.19.10
This past Sunday night at Le Cagibi we put on our very own Holly Jolly Holiday Bash. The night was filled with great music, great food and drinks and lots of prizes. Best yet, we raised money for the wonderful Eleven Eleven Animal Rescue. We would like to start off by thanking all those who came out, played, donated, and filled up the cozy little venue to the brim. Read more…
Winter Gloves – Il Motore – 09.25.10
How many times have you put the radio on and the first thing that comes to mind is, ‘oh not Lady Gaga again’, or ‘if I hear one more Justin Bieber song I’m going to flip’? The truth is there aren’t many music groups you can listen to over and over again and never get sick of. I for one am the first to admit I even get sick of some of my favorites after hearing them one too many times on my ipod. But once you come across a band whose music seems to always be fresh in your mind, no matter what time of day or night, no matter how many times you’ve heard it, it’s genuinely a magical moment. For me, Winter Gloves fall right into that category. Read more…
MGMT + Violens – Metropolis – Wednesday, August 4th, 2010
Over these past few weeks Montreal has been one hot city. With temperatures rising higher than 32 degrees Celsius (sorry all you Americans, I don’t speak Fahrenheit), and humidity that makes hair of all types become frizzy dos, last night would have been one cooler exception after tumultuous rainstorms. And I say would have been rather than was because if you thought the past few weeks were unbearably hot, then you have no idea what it was like at Metropolis last night. The MGMT gig has been sold out for some time now, and Metropolis filled up rather quickly after the doors opened around 6:30. Read more…
Au Revoir Simone + Alexa Wilding + The Hoof and the Heel – La Sala Rossa – Friday, July 16th, 2010
It has become my quest this summer to become more in touch with the performing side of the music world. Seeing that I am truly ambitious and quite motivated, I have started taking singing lessons, began plucking away at my Norman acoustic guitar, and have even gotten out my moleskin to write up any witty lyric I may think up while strolling through the park. Once I become less of a spaz and am able to successfully combine the strumming and singing all into one audible piece, the next step is to be brave enough to take it to the stage. In the mean time, I have been looking for inspiration here, there and everywhere… and what better place to look than the lovely Sala Rossa…After interviewing Alexa Wilding a few weeks back, I was really eager to see her and the fabulous Au Revoir Simone take to the Montreal stage. Dead Messenger + The Heavy Hands – Divan Orange – Thursday, May 27th, 2010
To all you die hard rock n roll fans, the evolution of a rock show is something you ought to know. It all starts off with a group of musicians, usually in torn jeans with black t-shirts (if any shirt at all), some killer riffs and drums, and raspy vocals. Next, the venue has to be filled with beer, fans, and of course, some thongs hanging around. Well, that’s exactly what we got Thursday night at Divan Orange, with performances by the 514’s very own The Heavy Hands and Dead Messenger.
Interview: The Dutchess & The Duke
Yesterday we had the opportunity to have a chat on the phone with lead singer and guitarist Jesse Lortz of The Dutchess & The Duke.
Jonathan Emile – Shaika Cafe – Wedensday, December 16th, 2009
Who went out last night? Well for those who didn’t, it was probably one of our coldest nights this year! But that didn’t stop Jonathan Emile from coming out to the quaint Shaika Cafe and singing his heart out.
