Fitz & The Tantrums – Petit Campus – 25.01.11
Due to the abundance of shows I have been seeing lately, I was almost at the point of overdose. That was of course, until this Tuesday’s show at the friendly and welcoming Petit Campus. The acts were completely out of my genre spectrum, not having been exposed to any Motown music since my tender childhood years (minus the time when I was embarrassingly obsessed with Maroon 5′s Songs About Jane album). Nonetheless, Fitz & The Tantrums and Freedom Or Death both have this incredibly likable quality to their music, and stage presences more impressive than any band I have seen in a long time. Tokyo Police Club + Two Door Cinema Club – Club Soda – 01.16.11
This review has been proving to be very difficult to write considering the rage I’ve been bottling up since Sunday’s show, so I’ve decided to say it straight. Although I am doing my best not to wash everyone with the same dirty cloth, I can’t help but be utterly disappointed in the fact that some of the people at the Tokyo Police Club/Two Door Cinema Club show acted like immature, light-headed fanatics. It is in no way acceptable for a person that is old and wise enough to know the difference between right and wrong to commit an act of stealing. It is selfish, and makes you look like an asshole. It doesn’t matter whether you stole an inexpensive trinket, or a very valuable piece of merchandise; it is the fact that you are taking away something that already belongs to someone, hence something that is of sentimental value. Ruby Coast Release “Sister” B-Side feat. MYATS’ Sarve
There’s a lot of good news coming out the Ruby Coast camp these days. The band’s been keeping their fans on their heels for a little while, but the wait is almost over! Their first full length album will be released in stores this March. It has also just been announced that they will be playing with Born Ruffians on April 1st at La Sala Rossa in Montreal. But perhaps the most exciting news of all is a collection of B-Sides the band has recently released on bandcamp , one of which features Meet You At The Show’s own Sarve.

Meligrove Band + Ruby Coast – O Patro Vys – 11.09.10
November: That month right after ball-busting midterms, and right before ugly finals. If you were given the choice, you’d definitely compromise that 1000+ word essay about Gombrich for a rad show on a Tuesday night. As a matter of fact, I was pretty lucky to have had the opportunity to make that choice; two pretty fantastic acts played the dainty O Patro Vys, making me incredibly happy about ditching that essay. Local Natives – La Tulipe – 10.20.10
As I was power-walking my way down to La Tulipe from the Mont-Royal metro station, I couldn’t help muttering words of disapproval towards the fact that I spent a useless three hours in an inconveniently timed 6:00 PM to 8:45 PM class. I was sure I was going to miss the opening band, The Union Line, who are long time friends of Local Natives and fantastic in their own way. Nevertheless, I kept a tiny strain of hope and prayed they have some technical difficulties that would delay their 8:30pm set.
Interview: Local Natives
Oh, that feeling of attachment. You’ve been following a band since their humble beginnings and you think they’re something great but aren’t expecting them to get as far as they do, then all of a sudden, “BOOM!” Five piece harmony/percussion driven Local Natives have definitely made a lot of their first fans feel that way. It’s crazy to think that just over a year ago they were opening for the likes of Blind Pilot at Il Motore and Edward Sharpe at Petit Campus, driving around the continent in that typical band-van that can break down at any given moment. Nowadays they headline their own shows, one of them happening later this evening at our very own La Tulipe in Montreal. They also ride around the continent on a proper tour bus and they’ve eaten at so many great restaurants that it’s difficult for them to chose a top 5, let alone a top 3. Take a look at our latest interview with Local Natives singer and multi-instrumentalist Kelcey Ayer for the full story. Read more…
