The Hoof & The Heel
Au Revoir Simone + Alexa Wilding + The Hoof and the Heel – La Sala Rossa – Friday, July 16th, 2010
It has become my quest this summer to become more in touch with the performing side of the music world. Seeing that I am truly ambitious and quite motivated, I have started taking singing lessons, began plucking away at my Norman acoustic guitar, and have even gotten out my moleskin to write up any witty lyric I may think up while strolling through the park. Once I become less of a spaz and am able to successfully combine the strumming and singing all into one audible piece, the next step is to be brave enough to take it to the stage. In the mean time, I have been looking for inspiration here, there and everywhere… and what better place to look than the lovely Sala Rossa…After interviewing Alexa Wilding a few weeks back, I was really eager to see her and the fabulous Au Revoir Simone take to the Montreal stage. The Luyas – The Rialto Theatre – Wednesday, June 9th, 2010
There was a lot happening in the city last night. There was even a lot happening outside of the city, with the Arcade Fire playing a (not so) secret show in a parking lot in Longueuil. So I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was surprised to see how many people showed up to check out The Luyas playing at the majestic Rialto Theatre last night. Read more…
Tonight in the City
We’ve got a huge night of shows ahead of us tonight in Montreal. Unless your planning on heading to Longueuil tonight to catch the Arcade Fire playing yet another (somewhat) secret free show at Place Longueuil at 8:30 PM we’ve got the run down of what’s happening in the city tonight. Leading the way are Montreal’s The Luyas and AIDS Wolf, along with Regina, Saskatchewan’s Rah Rah, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Read more…
Free Download of the Week: The Luyas – “Tiny Head”
This week Montreal’s The Luyas will headline a show at the legendary Rialto Theatre in Montreal. Yes that’s the same Rialto Theatre that has been just sitting there unused on Parc Avenue between St. Viateur and Bernard for the past few years. Thanks to Passovah, The Rialto is re-opening it’s doors for a very special concert featuring some of Montreal’s most exciting bands. Along with The Luyas, we will also hear from The Hoof & The Heel and Avec Pas D’Casque. In celebration of this event we would like to offer you a track of The Luyas forthcoming debut LP called “Tiny Head” as this week’s free download.
This Week in Montreal
The Suoni per il Popolo festival continues to roll along this week, bringing us two interesting one-woman acts, Grouper and Tune-Yards. If you’re in the mood for some dreamy vocals and ambient haze, head on over to check out Grouper, aka Liz Harris. While if you’re up for some truly quirky folk/pop DIY beatboxing sounds, Tune-Yards aka Merrill Garbus could be what you need to jumpstart this busy concert week. Beyond Suoni per il Popolo, we are truly excited for this Wednesday’s Luyas show at the Rialto Theatre; we get to see one of Montreal’s biggest exports at the moment playing at the gorgeous venue’s first public show in a fairly long time. We are also giving away tickets to this Friday’s Jane Vain and Valleys show. Keep on reading to check out more of what’s happening this week in Montreal.
