So how did December arrive so quickly? One morning its fall and the next day Montreal is bedecked with Christmas paraphernalia. The holidays can be a busy time, full of cozy dinners, sleigh rides, skating... ok this is more of our Christmas fantasy. But before all your free time actually gets usurped by mad dash shopping and a suffocating amount of family of time, its probably a good idea to pack in some shows while you still can! Keep reading for highlights of shows happening this week around Montreal, including Bear Hands, Ra Ra Riot and Stars.

The Halloween spirit was alive and kicking at Le National on Saturday night for the Matt and Kim show with some concert-goers in costume, ready to party. First up was Montreal's own The Hoof & The Heel. These guys are no stranger to opening for some big acts, having shared the stage with the likes of Au Revoir Simone, The Luyas, White Rabbits and Winter Gloves this past year. However, last night's opening slot for Matt and Kim may have been their biggest show yet, and they did not disappoint as they played a concise set of songs from their first two EPs, And All The Tigers and Fireworks.

Halloween is simultaneously one of the most anticipated and dreaded times of the year. A time when social mores lapse, women feel compelled to walk around in a G-string, and drunken buffoonery clouds the Montreal cityscape. This week's shows offer us refuge to escape the Halloween pandemonium or if you prefer, an opportunity to debut your Lady Gaga meat dress. The week kicks tonight with performances by Dan Mangan and Die Antwoord (we have a feeling you'll be seeing more than a few Ninja and Yo-Landi inspired costumes this week). On Hallow's Eve, you can make your way over to Il Motore to check out Diamond Rings or to La Sala Rossa to see The Vaselines who are in town to promote their new album Sex with an X. Keep on reading for more show highlights this week including Yukon Blonde, Candy Claws and Matt & Kim.

On our show-hoping frenzy we managed to check out guitar genius Marnie Stern at the Cabaret, Danielson and Shapes & Sizes at La Sala Rossa and Library Voices, Ruby Coast, The Hoof & The Heel and Savoir Adore at Petit Campus. We also managed to catch Gentleman Reg's new dance-pop act, Light Fires over at Divan Orange and all the madness going on over at Espace Reunion with Deerhoof.
Day four at Pop Montreal 2010 is one of both joy and sadness. Joy because, to be perfectly frank, there are some bitchin' shows happening on this night. And sadness because the fourth day of Pop Montreal is the second to last day of the cities most awesome music festival. But let's not sulk, there are some tough decisions to be made and some great shows to see. Take a look at our highlights from a very busy Saturday at Pop Montreal 2010.

How many times have you put the radio on and the first thing that comes to mind is, ‘oh not Lady Gaga again’, or ‘if I hear one more Justin Bieber song I’m going to flip’? The truth is there aren’t many music groups you can listen to over and over again and never get sick of. I for one am the first to admit I even get sick of some of my favorites after hearing them one too many times on my ipod. But once you come across a band whose music seems to always be fresh in your mind, no matter what time of day or night, no matter how many times you’ve heard it, it’s genuinely a magical moment. For me, Winter Gloves fall right into that category.
