This Week In Montreal
The big guns are coming out to play this week in Montreal. Besides a slew of great smaller shows happening around the city, this week there are a couple of blockbuster shows that many people have been counting down the days to. Firstly, The Pixies will play back to back nights at Metropolis on Wednesday and Thursday with Imaginary Cities. Then on Friday at Le National we’ve got one of the best lineups we’ve seen in a long time with Black Lips, Vivian Girls and Davila 666 taking the stage. Saturday we’ve got Timber Timbre playing at Corona Theatre and TV on the Radio will cap things off at Metropolis on Sunday. We hope you’ve saved up!
Saturday Video Parade!
Today marks the triumphant return of the Saturday Video Parade! It’s been a little while since we’ve updated you on the latest and greatest videos from around the music world but have no fear, we are back this week with a hefty helping of new vids! We’ve got The New Pornographers, The Black Keys, Young Galaxy, Vivian Girls, Akron/Family, SUUNS, Little Scream and much much more after the jump.
Upcoming Releases
We’ve already looked back upon the last year in our Best of 2010 series. Now it’s time to look to the future. The new year is already looking quite promising with lots of great new releases lined up by some of the brightest stars in the indie music scene. The 90s are also making a return this year so if there’s a piece of you that’s yearning for some new Jane’s Addiction or No Doubt, there is good news for you too. Cloud Nothings Blow Into Town
Over the past year lo-fi pop has grown into quite the monster of a trend. Lo-fi pop rockers like Girls, Vivian Girls, and WAVVES have managed to captivate listeners with their fuzzy and hazy bedroom sounds. It appears the trend is far from abating. As much you might say you are sick of low-production buzz bands, how can you explain how a new crop lo-fi darlings like Dum Dum Girls or Best Coast are making it in the big time? Lo-fi pop/punk/garage rock, whatever you may call it is here to stay. So where does Cloud Nothings fit into all of this?

Vivian Girls – La Sala Rossa – Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
Last night, Vivian Girls, Drunk Dial and Male Bonding hosted a show at La Sala Rossa filled with noisy punk rock and a whole lot of talent. Although the hall was empty until about 10:00 PM (in true Montreal fashion), the audience somehow managed to make it just in time to catch the opening band.

What a week of shows we have ahead of us. Kicking off tonight with Montreal’s own singer/songwriter David Martel, who will be playing some brand new songs from a his forthcoming EP, the week just get’s better and better culminating on Sunday night in the first night of Joanna Newsom‘s two sold out shows at the Ukrainian Federation. Vivian Girls – La Sala Rossa – Mardi le 9 mars 2010
Hier soir, La Sala Rossa recevait trois groupes de punk rock au talent indiscutable: Vivian Girls, Drunk Dial et Male Bonding. Bien que la salle était presque vide jusqu’à environ 22 heures (attitude typiquement montréalaise), les spectateurs sont arrivés juste à temps pour attraper le premier groupe. Venue of the Month: La Sala Rossa
It’s time to announce our venue of the month for the month of March. No it’s not Il Motore as it has been twice in the past four months. While there is of course some great stuff going down at Il Motore this month, we have chosen Spanish restaurant/concert hall La Sala Rossa as our venue of the month for March. There are things going down at Sala on 28 of the 31 nights of March. Here are some highlights.
