Real Estate + Twin Sister @ Il Motore – 20.07.11

Real Estate + Twin Sister @ Il Motore – 20.07.11

There are certain bands that can add to the soundtrack of your summer life, and last Wednesday, the good folks at Blue Skies Turn Black gave a taste of four possibilites.  The first, a Lee Hazelwood inspired Dent May, the second, aspiring psychadelic punk rockers, Lost Boy ?, the third, the haunting music of Twin Sister, and then finally, the pretty surf pop of Real Estate. Kurt Vile + Woods – La Sala Rossa – 12.07.11

Kurt Vile + Woods – La Sala Rossa – 12.07.11

Tuesday, July 12 2011, was the highly anticipated Kurt Vile and the Violators and Woods show at La Sala Rossa. By 9:30 p.m., all the tickets were already sold out and there was a sulking crowd outside the venue hoping to perhaps gain entrance later on during the night. Kurt Vile has definitely come a long way because, just last year, he was opening up for F*cked Up at Sala Rossa to a crowd less than half the size of yesterday’s.

This Week In Montreal

This Week In Montreal

There’s a lot going on in the city this week starting with three very worthy shows tonight. The biggest one would be The Black Keys and Cage The Elephant at the Bell Center, but if your looking for something a little more low key you should check out 100 Monkeys at La Sala Rossa or The Wooden Birds at Casa Del Popolo, who will be sharing the stage with Montreal’s own Folly & The Hunter. Sala Rossa is the place to be this week, with Kurt Vile, Woods, Cold Cave and the Dirtbombs all playing at the quaint St Laurent venue. Here’s all the highlights for the week: Read more…

And to finish us off this week we’ve got an extra special live video of Montreal’s own The Luyas performing their song “Tiny Head” at the Railto Theatre in Montreal. Read more…

Cloud Nothings Blow Into Town

Lo-fi pop rockers like Girls, Vivian Girls, and WAVVES have managed to captivate listeners with their fuzzy and hazy bedroom sounds. It appears the trend is far from abating. As much you might say you are sick of low-production buzz bands, how can you explain how a new crop lo-fi darlings like Dum Dum Girls or Best Coast are making it in the big time? Lo-fi pop/punk/garage rock, whatever you may call it is here to stay. So where does Cloud Nothings fit into all of this?

Woods + Real Estate – Club Lambi – Saturday March 13th, 2010

Before Saturday night’s show at Club Lambi featuring Valleys, Real Estate, and Woods, I was curious about something.  How many people would Real Estate and Woods pull in, in the former’s first trip to Montreal?  As it said on Facebook, the tickets were selling fast and that proved to be true given the turn out last night, as the venue was packed.
