I know we say this every week, but this week will be an exceptionally good week of shows in Montreal. You may not have even had a chance to catch your breath after Jónsi and Yeasayer‘s performances last night, but already tonight we’ve got Frightened Rabbit playing at Petit Campus with Maps & Atlases, My Brightest Diamond and David Martel playing at Il Motore and Jóhann Jóhannsson playing at L’Astral. Venue of the Month: Le National
There was much hemming and hawing this month in deciding which Montreal music venue we would name the venue of the month. The final four came down to Il Motore, Green Room, Divan Orange and Le National. To be fair, there are great things going down at all four venues and many others this month. But because of a few highly anticipated acts coming to Le National, we are proud to announce that, for the first time ever, it is our venue of the month for May.
This Week in Montreal
We’ve got yet another incredible week of shows lined up in Montreal this week. While you may notice the week will start off a little slow, by the end of the week there are so many great shows happening you’re not gonna know what to do with yourself. Take this Thursday for example. Are you going to go see Horse Feathers at Divan Orange, Timber Timbre & The Luyas at La Tulipe, The Album Leaf & Sea Wolf at the Cabaret or Joseph Arthur at La Sala Rossa. Not to mention Lullabye Arkestra is also playing at Casa Del Popolo the same night! These are just a handful of shows, all happening this week in Montreal.

Phantogram – Eyelid Movies
Saratoga Springs, NY electronic duo Phantogram, who have been making waves all over the blogosphere lately as well at venues all over North America and who have opened for the likes of Zero 7, Yeasayer and Minus The Bear have finally delivered their captivating and mesmerizing debut; Eyelid Movies (Barsuk Records). Although they are only two, guitarist Josh Carter and keyboardist Sarah Barthel have created a sound as full and satisfying as a five piece band using only a few instruments and some electronic elements. Although the album on a whole is electronic pop, the direction sometimes drifts into an incredibly pleasant mix of trip-hop, psychedelic, and even hip-hop. Read more…
Yeasayer – Odd Blood
Yeasayer, le groupe expérimental et psychédélique de Brooklyn sort finalement sont deuxième album Odd Blood trois ans après leur premier disque acclamé par la critique, All Hours Cymbals. Leur dernier opus n’évoque plus le sentiment d’être un nomade errant dans un désert aride mais nous permet plutôt de découvrir un tout nouveau monde de sonorité.

Brooklyn’s psychedelic, experimental rock band Yeasayer have, after a long wait since 2007’s critically acclaimed All Hours Cymbals, released their sophomore album, entitled Odd Blood.
