The Clientele – Il Motore – Saturday, March 20th, 2010
I tend to go about my daily happenings in the same way I obsessively organize my Itunes library. That is, my life is thematically arranged. Most musically inclined folks have their walking, studying and unwinding music. However, I seem to have taken these arrangements a little further. I am a playlist junkie. Cleaning tunes are essential to my repertory of playlists, and The Clientele happen to be my washing-the-dishes music of choice. Perhaps its because their dreamy songs lend nicely to running water and foaming action. Or maybe the Clientele’s 60s inspired pop gems transport me from rubber gloves and dishwasher detergent, into a scene from a sophisticated melodrama involving self-indulgent and tragically neurotic characters. I was lucky enough to catch the Clientele play at Il Motore this past Saturday night. Seeing the quartet live was not only an aural treat but also a chance for me to gain some psychoanalytic insight on my cleaning music pairing.

Before The Show: A Love Letter To The Field
Tomorrow night Green Room will host a variety of Canadian musicians in a benefit for Haiti called A Love Letter To The Field. Playing will be Murray & Natalia of The Dears, Apostle of Hustle front man Andrew Whiteman’s new side project that goes by the name ‘A’ as well as a lot of other great artists. All proceeds from the show will go to Action Against Hunger in Haiti.
