This Week In Montreal

This Week In Montreal

This week will be one of the best weeks for concerts in Montreal that we have seen in quite awhile. That is if you like people artists like Girl Talk and Max Tundra, or bands like Smith Westerns, The Low Anthem and Yukon Blonde. This week we also urge you to come out to celebrate Passovah‘s 3 year anniversary on Thursday and Friday night at Divan Orange and Il Motore. Finally, don’t miss locals Folly and the Hunter and Honheehonhee who will also take the stage this week. Here’s the full picture… Read more…

Canadian Indie Geography – Pt. 1: West Coast

Canadian Indie Geography – Pt. 1: West Coast

Canada’s always had a knack at fostering talented artists in the music world. Leaving at our dispositions an array of musicians, such as Neil Young, Sloan, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Stars, Sam Roberts Band, Simple Plan…Okay, went a little too far with that last one, but it basically goes to show that the Great White North is home to an endless amount of musical talent. We’ve tried our best to make it easier for you by providing a nowhere near extensive list of some great up-and-coming bands the gang at Meet You At The Show personally love listening to. We’ve even divided them into their respective territories. Let’s start things off with the West Coastians. Read more…

The Wooden Sky + Yukon Blonde – La Sala Rossa – 10.26.10

The Wooden Sky + Yukon Blonde – La Sala Rossa – 10.26.10

Toronto, Ontario’s The Wooden Sky proved they had a great following last night at La Sala Rossa. After touring across the country, they wound up in Montreal to present their latest album If I Don’t Come Home, You’ll Know I’m Gone. This release showcases the band’s undeniable capacity to push boundaries of both folk and country, making it difficult to limit them to either category. Read more…

This Week in Montreal

This Week in Montreal

Halloween is simultaneously one of the most anticipated and dreaded times of the year. A time when social mores lapse, women feel compelled to walk around in a G-string, and drunken buffoonery clouds the Montreal cityscape. This week’s shows offer us refuge to escape the Halloween pandemonium or if you prefer, an opportunity to debut your Lady Gaga meat dress. The week kicks tonight with performances by Dan Mangan and Die Antwoord (we have a feeling you’ll be seeing more than a few Ninja and Yo-Landi inspired costumes this week). On Hallows Eve, you can make your way over to Il Motore to check out Diamond Rings or to La Sala Rossa to see The Vaselines who are in town to promote their new album Sex with an X. Keep on reading for more show highlights this week including Yukon Blonde, Candy Claws and Matt & Kim.

Yukon Blonde & The Wooden Sky Tour Together, Play Montreal October 26th

Yukon Blonde & The Wooden Sky Tour Together, Play Montreal October 26th

One of the biggest surprises of the last year for us was The Wooden Sky’s performance last November at Il Motore. We went into the show not really knowing what to expect and were pleasantly surprised by not only a great set, but an overall really fun show. Fast forward a few months and the now Polaris Prize nominated Toronto band have just announced that they will be hitting the road for five weeks this fall with fellow Polaris nominees, Vancouver’s Yukon Blonde. The best news of all is that the two band’s will be making a stop in Montreal on October 26th at La Sala Rossa, making this one of our most anticipated shows of the fall.

Surfer Blood – Il Motore – Friday, March 5th, 2010

You could say I had only some expectations for last night’s “festival” of rock music at Il Motore.  Headlining band Surfer Blood was obviously the main reason for the large turnout and although their rising popularity in the indie rock world isn’t exactly a secret, I almost felt like there was something to be desired from this band going into last night.  Expectations were not high, nor were they low, but I’ll put it this way: the show packed quite a punch.
